Product Details
Bhagalpuri Tussar silk is a traditional style of silk saris from Bhagalpur region of Bihar. This City is also known as “silk city” of India. A hub for weavers and patrons of Indian handloom sarees, Bhagalpur town has about 30,000 weavers and more than 25,000 looms. Bhagalpuri Tussar silk is made from cocoons of Antheraea paphia silkworms. Antheraea paphia silkworms are a part of the group known as Emperor Moths or Saturnids. This species, also known as Vanya silkworm is native to India. These silkworms live in the wild forests, in trees belonging to Terminalia species. Nathnagar is a place where Bhagalpuri silk is mainly processed. Besides sari, shawls, kurtis, and other garments are also made from Bhagalpuri silk.
One of the oldest forms of embroidery originating from India, its origins can be traced back to the pre-Vedic age (prior to 1500 BCE).The beauty of this kantha is that the shape is formed by looping threads on one surface only, so the reverse side of the fabric remains a simple kantha of straight, running stitch, while the front side is a complex geometric pattern.
Do expect slight colour variations or brightness due to digital photography or mobile-computer monitor settings
